The Crinkled Suit Is a New Summertime Essential, According to Seventeen’s Mingyu

Crumpled and wrinkled looks might have been a faux pas in the past, but today, they’re one of fashion’s newest must-haves. Need proof? A swift look at the runways of Prada, Miu Miu, Calvin Klein, Loewe or even Dior will suffice. For a celebrity take, divert your attention to the likes of Ruth Negga, Jessie Buckley, Demi Moore, or, more recently, Mingyu Kim, member of the South Korean band Seventeen.

In Paris to attend the Dior Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2026 show, the singer showcased just how versatile, easy-going and breezy a wrinkled-fabric outfit can be. Mingyu, ambassador for the French Maison since August 2024, stepped out in the City of Lights in a crinkle suit. And no, he did not accidentally forgo the steamer. His choice was deliberate and aligned seamlessly with fashion’s collective departure from ultra-polished styles, boring minimalism and passé aesthetics such as “quiet luxury.”

Mingyu’s look featured a fashion formula that is not at all novel among young heartthrobs—he went for a shirtless suit, a go-to among men in the 2020s. However, the star reworked the classic M.O. (boxy suits, pieces with structure or even naked dressing) in favor of two trends taking over fashion since the Fall/Winter 2026 Fashion Week season.

For one thing, the K-pop star slimmed down the silhouette, opting for fitted pants reminiscent of the skinny fit popular during the 2010s. As seen on recent runways, including Prada and Gucci, this slim silhouette is gradually returning to the runways, although it is yet to reach mainstream popularity. For another, Mingyu’s soft tailoring ensemble featured a purposely crumpled-up texture, which diverged from the most classic tailored outfits that men generally favor on the front rows of Haute Couture Week—take, for example, Bad Bunny’s structured butter yellow Schiaparelli suit earlier spotted this morning.

Mingyu complemented his crumpled-fabric suit with a pair of brown suede boots and a chic take on the classic hearrthob hairstyle.

Ultimately, the Seventeen singer’s look tapped into everything fashion is veering towards in 2026: nonchalance, intentionally lived-in appearances and a departure from perfection as an aesthetic goal. Bonus points because the lightweight ensemble also worked as a weather-friendly alternative to traditional suiting during the summer.
