Colman Domingo
“We can always count on Colman Domingo to deliver the best looks, regardless of the brands he takes to the red carpet. This Met Gala was no different and he looked as dapper and dandy as his role as co-chair demanded. While the blue cape was epic and a beautiful tribute to André Leon Talley, the Valentino suit encapsulated everything people think about when they think of Colman Domingo’s personal style — and it so happened to fit the gala’s dress code. That was the real flex.”

Damson Idris
“Damson Idris gave us drama, outfit change, theatrics and a suit I’ll continue to be obsessed with until next year’s gala. His outfit reveal is perhaps among my all-time favorite moments, right there with Rihanna’s 2015 dress.”

“Since the release of Wicked Part One and its extravagant international press tour, Cynthia Erivo has been on a fashion hot streak. Her Givenchy look at the Met Gala was no exception. Cynthia interpreted the theme with stand-out notes of her personal style: platform knee-high boots and a dramatic manicure. Cynthia’s long stiletto nails matched her bejewelled, corseted top, which gleamed with countless gems.”

Bad Bunny
“If there’s something Bad Bunny can easily pull off, is a tribute to Puerto Rico. His Met Gala look, featuring a pava (straw hat), was undoubtedly one of the best moments of the night. Since the release of his album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, Benito seems to be particularly in touch with his roots so it’s nice to see him proudly representing Puerto Rico on such a big stage, especially if we consider the current political climate.”

Sabrina Carpenter
“As the pantless trend is deep underway, spectators probably weren’t surprised to see Sabrina’s outfit, but I was pleased with the look’s tailoring and color choice. The deep merlot fabric with subtle pinstripes complimented Sabrina’s complexion and softened the edgy silhouette. Even though the outfit lacked pants, it showcased exceptional tailoring, with the proportions fitting her petite frame. Overall, the look felt like a work of art. Plus, Sabrina’s chunky pumps were a nice reference to the styling in the Short N’ Sweet Tour.”

Lupita Nyong’o
“Lupita Nyong’o is consistently one of Hollywood’s best dressed, so to no one’s surprise, she understood the assignment. Everything about her look was beautifully crafted and coexisted in harmony. I personally enjoyed watching the texture contrast between the tailored suit and the chiffon cape while she posed on the red carpet.”

Lisa
“There might be a debate about whether Lisa adhered to the theme or not, but the key to understanding her look was in the details. Dandyism is often interpreted in the context of suiting, but people like Dapper Dan have pushed the boundaries of what dandyism is through streetwear. I don’t even need to explain that logo mania is a big part of the streetwear culture. That’s where Lisa’s look felt like a good reinterpretation of the theme. She also made sure to put her personal imprint and go with a pantless spin that felt quintessentially her.”

“Another look I won’t stop thinking about was Rihanna’s. She looked like the embodiment of dandyism and the pregnancy reveal was just the icing on the cake. Can I get bold and predict she’ll start a polka dot tie trend next?”

“When I found out her dress was made of metallic meter, I immediately had to know who the designer was. Oliver Rousteing and Balmain did it again with this look. Ortega’s dress fit her to perfection and the measuring tape is a literal representation of the theme. I truly enjoyed the twofold nod to ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.’ ”

“Z is a style icon for a reason. Although her look was clean and sleek, it was full of meaning and history. That’s what made it especially beautiful. I will always enjoy tributes, Easter eggs and thoughtful fashion, so the suit and hat combo was a winning look in my books. And did everybody notice the brooch on her back? Chef kiss!”

Jennie
“Jennie always commits to the concept, but her three-piece set pleasantly surprised me. We rarely see her representing retro in a maximalist way. This look made me wish she’d do it more often. The ‘20s-inspired high-low skirt was beautiful — I didn’t even notice her cigarette trousers until much later. I also enjoyed the off-the-shoulder neckline, it made the concept feel true to Jennie’s personal style. Plus, the camellia appliqué and the pearls were the perfect reminder of Chanel’s house codes. This silhouette will be one I’ll remember for many Met Galas to come.”

S.Coups
“While I’m never against a literal interpretation of the theme, my favorite Met Gala moments have been courtesy of people who push the boundaries and reimagine the concept to fit their reality. That’s why S.Coups’ was perhaps my favorite menswear look of the night. His approach to tailoring was true to his roots, the Boss DNA and the dress code, “Tailored for You.” The hanbok-inspired silhouette was masculine, clever and a great reminder that celebrating your heritage will never go out of style, which was the whole purpose of the event.”

“The Le Smoking tuxedo was an integral part of the Saint Laurent DNA and it moved mountains for women’s clothing. So, I was very excited to see what Rosé and the fashion house had in store for the Met Gala. Similar to her appearance at the Saint Laurent Fall-Winter 2024 show, Rosé chose an oversized fit. The whole look felt tailored to her taste — which is the goal of the OG Le Smoking tuxedo. In the beauty front, the wet tousled hair, smudged liner and glossy overlip created sultry energy. All three elements felt harmonious, not just with each other, but with the outfit. That’s what I look for when analysing the red carpet.”

“Anyone who’s up-to-date with the latest fashion conversations knows that Freen is one of the leading figures in the Thai wave. It goes without saying that her Met Gala debut was highly anticipated. Similar to the major A-listers at the event, Freen combined her own style affinities with the night’s theme and the result felt quite true to herself. It was delicate, feminine, detail-oriented, and a perfect representation of the brand she is an ambassador of. It was a gorgeous debut and hopefully, we’ll get to see more of her in the future.”

“After literally breaking the internet last year, Mona Patel returned to the Met Gala red carpet. Given her background as a tech entrepreneur and haute couture collector, it was only natural she opted for a Thom Browne look, enhanced with novel tech details such as a kinetic spine and a robot dog. This was a perfect example of embracing the theme, but making it uniquely yours. Also, can we talk about how her corset matches her shoes perfectly? That is attention to detail!”

Shah Rukh Khan
“I honestly don’t even know how to start, but everything about Shah Rukh Khan’s Met Gala debut was perfect and it was monumental for Indian culture and fashion. He is rightfully one of India’s most beloved stars and this invitation was long overdue. While the outfit stood out on its own, the real stars were the accessories. The pendant with his name’s initial? Hello? Imagine being so iconic that you can reference yourself. And let’s not even get into the details about the gold and precious stone-adorned cane. I give this look an 11 out of 10.”
