The Seventeen leader took the cultural route, paying homage to his roots for his first Met Gala appearance.

There is always anticipation for newcomers debuting on the steps of the Met every first Monday of May. This year, one of the names was the leader of K-pop powerhouse Seventeen, S.Coups. For his debut at the Met Gala, the newly appointed BOSS ambassador put a personal twist on the ‘Tailored for You’ dress code by blending his cultural roots with BOSS’ tailoring tradition and craftsmanship.

An Ode to Home

The rapper paid homage to his heritage, wearing a suit heavily inspired by the traditional Korean Hanbok, ‘Jeogori.’ The Jeogori is the base element of the Hanbok’s top, characterized by a V-shaped neckline and long sleeves. It is worn by wrapping itself over the wearer’s torso and tied on the side of the body.

Breaking The Look Down

S.Coup’s suit was made of grey Italian wool flannel, giving the traditionally fluid silhouette a more sturdy and structured look. The outfit consisted of a robe-like coat with a shawl collar featuring pleated details and puckering and draping on its outer surface and inner lining. Underneath the coat, the idol sported a light grey suit of the same material. The tailored ensemble featured a blazer that combined the Jeogori silhouette with a double-breasted cut and it was layered on top of a stand-up collar shirt. 

On the bottom half, he wore straight-cut multi-pleat trousers with a cut-on waistband and adjuster on the back, allowing for the suit to not only be structured, but also comfortable for movement. 

To top off the look, S.Coups fittingly dyed his hair to a matching shade of ash gray. The “Maestro” singer completed the ensemble with a pair of grey wool heeled boots and a Piaget Haute Horlogerie Polo Chronograph that made the rounds among horlogerie enthusiasts and connoisseurs. 

Boss DNA

S.Coups look wasn’t only a perfect representation of his culture, but also of BOSS’ signature craftsmanship and aesthetics.

Marco Falcioni, SVP of Creative Direction at HUGO BOSS broke down the creation process in a press statement. “Timeless, classic tailoring is foundational to BOSS, making this year’s theme very special to us. We’ve been proud to dress talents who are part of the BOSS family in bespoke, tailored looks. Our creative process was built around very personal conversations with all of them. We worked with them to express their own take on tailoring, to translate their personality and style through a BOSS filter, and make each of them feel like a true BOSS on the red carpet,” Falcioni said.

“These looks have a very deep connection with their wearers, as befits the ‘Tailored for You’ theme. And we’ve injected a certain opulence and indulgence of style in homage to the inspiring book the Superfine exhibition is based on.”

A Promising Beginning

S.Coup’s Met Gala appearance marks a new chapter for the singer, who became the first member of his group to attend the event. The night also marked his first event attendance as a Global Ambassador for BOSS. 

So far, S.Coups’ powerful confidence and stern personality have brought a breath of fresh air into BOSS’ creations. And, if we go by the internet frenzy he caused at his arrival at the Met, the world can’t wait to see what’s next from this partnership.
