Jimin Took a Historical-Inspired Piece to the Dior Front Row

The BTS star’s look combined legacy, history and Dior sensibilities.

Pop star Jimin has a documented track record of making grand statements on the Dior front row. He has aced the shirtless look, made a case for monochrome dressing and prompted millions in Media Impact Value through coverage of his show attendances.

At the latest Dior Homme show, however, Jimin made headlines for something other than sensual styling or the hordes of fashion photographers following him upon his arrival at Musée Nissim de Camondo. The attention, or at least part of it, focused on the blue velvet coat that gave Jimin’s outfit a royal appearance. Suitable for a period drama leading man, the piece stood out for its tailoring and ornate details: gold scrolling foliate closures that extended past the waist and matching motifs on the cuffs.

What was more impressive, however, was the coat’s inspiration: a 1775 piece from the Mark Wallis Collection, which the Victoria & Albert Museum “believes to be the largest private collection of historic menswear in the United Kingdom.” As of 2024, the item was marked as “not for sale” online.

Mixing period and present-day menswear sensibilities

In 2026, Jonathan Anderson, who has turned to vintage and historical inspirations throughout his tenure at Dior, remade the coat for the Dior Homme SS27 show. The collection, in case you were wondering, tapped into clothing elements from bygone eras, juxtaposing silhouettes, classic embroideries and prints in unexpected ways. Anderson described the show as “an exercise in shifting perspectives, reinvention and the euphoria of recognition.”

As one of Dior’s most visible ambassadors, Jimin, of course, had first dibs on the collection. The singer wore a replica of the 18th-century coat that, despite its historical inspiration, channeled contemporary menswear sensibilities. The tailoring offered extra room in the sleeves and subtly widened the fit (loyal to the era, the original coat featured a very slim cut and closely fitting sleeves). The coat replica also left aside the contrasting interior lining and added space at the cuffs, letting the folded detail stand out.

Grounding the look in the present, Jimin styled the blue coat with inherently modern fashion staples: a pair of panelled denim pants and a checkered green shirt. And… as many of the internet’s hottest heartthrobs are doing lately, Jimin brought main character energy with his hairstyling: a honey blonde take on the wolf cut. The “Who” singer sported his luscious mane into a simple middle part that allowed the softly blended layers to frame his face.

Frankly, this might be one of Jimin’s most memorable looks to date.
