Hande Erçel Makes a Case for Rainbow Jewelry on the Cannes Red Carpet

Is rainbow jewelry the next big trend in fashion?

For a long time, classic colors and neutral tones have dominated the world of high jewelry. Not anymore. As proven by screen icon Hande Erçel, color-rich jewels are the next big thing—and per usual, the Turkish darling is ahead of the trend curve.

While in Cannes to attend the city’s prestigious film festival, the actor brought multi-colored jewelry to the red carpet of Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet’s La Vie D’Une Femme. Named “Gemme Superlative,” the piece features a rose gold structure, brown diamonds and various gemstones across the color spectrum, including pink, blue, green, and turquoise.

Erçel, who returned to the festival for the third year in a row, paired the luxurious jewels with a gold column dress by Sophie Couture. The strapless silhouette featured a sculptural detail at the neckline, subtly breaking the head-to-toe gold with silver. While the gilded gown thrived on its lacquered texture and countless geometrical beads, the piece didn’t overshadow the grandeur of the necklace.

Quite the opposite, wrapped around the actress’ neck, the bright-toned piece offered a striking contrast.

While high jewelry is in no way a novelty on the Cannes red carpet—over the years, the festival has become a coveted space for jewelry brands to display their most valuable creations—the Gemme Superlative broke classic jewelry conventions and proved, beyond any doubt, the rise of rainbow jewelry.

Responding to changing consumer preferences and signaling a shift in jewelry trends, in recent months, multi-colored designs have taken flight in high jewelry spaces. This chromatic revolution has birthed a trend that combines a slew of colors and gemstones of different kinds in the same piece—a departure from the restrained and classic designs favored in high jewelry.

Accordingly, buyers and collectors are gravitating toward rich palettes and unlikely gem combinations. And though the trend is yet to fully hit the red carpets, if Hande Erçel’s appearance at Cannes is anything to go by, the rainbow jewelry era is just starting.
