Black Reigns Supreme on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Move over, Cloud Dancer, the real color of 2026 is black.

Pantone predicted the 2026 Color of the Year to be a billowy white they dubbed “Cloud Dancer.” Besides the obvious fact that no one is vibing with the tone-deaf choice, it seems the color authority institution also failed to recognize that the hottest color of 2026 (so far) is actually black.

If you ask purists, black is technically not a color (rather the absence of it), but at the 83rd Golden Globes red carpet, black was the color du jour, favored by the biggest stars. The night’s most stylish, from Best Supporting Female Actor winner Teyana Taylor to the singing voices of Kpop Demon Hunters and scream queen Jenna Ortega, opted for black attire to attend the event.

There was no shortage of black numbers parading down the red carpet

Lisa Manobal, actress, singer and consummate fashion icon, put a spin on the naked dress with a sheer gown by Jacquemus that subtly nodded to ’70s silhouettes. To top off the look, Lisa tastefully accessorized with a Bvlgari Vimini necklace. Another Asian star making a case for sheer dresses was Jihyo, member of Twice. Jihyo’s Roberto Cavalli number rang the halter dress trend to the fore, combining sheer fabric with panels of a subtle sea foam pattern.

Teyana Taylor made her own thing with a jaw-dropping couture gown by Schiaparelli. Her outfit featured all the elements of a trendy, but well-crafted red carpet ensemble, from the butt-baring cutouts celebs can’t get enough of since last year to a scarf-like detail that transformed into a long train. Actresses like Ariana Grande and Aimee Lou Wood went all out with dresses featuring long, voluminous skirts. Jenna Ortega and Audrey Nuna, on the other hand, elicited gasps with bold fashion statements that proved black isn’t necessarily a color of simplicity.

Men, meanwhile, reinvented the classic black suit. Some, like Damson Idris, opted for strong silhouettes—he sported a double-breasted Prada jacket with skinny pants. Others favored statement accessories to enhance their head-to-toe black ensembles, like Colman Domingo, who adorned a Valentino suit with a slew of custom-made diamond brooches by Boucheron. The most youthful, including Timothée Chalamet and Joshua Hong, member of the K-pop sensation Seventeen, went for modern choices. Joshua wore slightly flared pants, paired with a satin lapel jacket and a silky shirt with half of the button placket left unopened. Chalament took it up a notch, dressed in a three-piece Chrome Hearts suit styled with Timberlands.

Finally, some of our favorite celebs combined black with white in either color blocks or just as small accents. Charli xcx and Heated Rivalry breakout star Hudson Williams, for example, reinvented the classic black and white formula, opting for contrasting tops and bottoms. Selena Gomez, on the other hand, donned a black Chanel dress, adorned with white feathers.
