Diversity, joyful dressing and social awareness marked Copenhagen Fashion Week on and off the runways.
Every August, Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW) kicks off the Spring/Summer runway cycle with a display of idiosyncratic, visually stimulating and sustainable fashion on and off the runways. Prefacing Fashion Month—which unfolds throughout September and October in New York, London, Milan and Paris—Copenhagen serves as a barometer for the styles set to populate the runways next. Paradoxically, CPHFW also represents a refreshing departure from mainstream trends.
This year, the event celebrated its 20th anniversary, showcasing Scandinavian brands’ pledge to sustainability and showgoers’ commitment to diverse, fun and purposeful fashion. Away from the body standards that glop-1 drugs have quietly imposed (back) in fashion and the branded front rows that have replaced personal style with PR-approved ensembles, the streets and show venues of Copenhagen teemed with vibrant color, texture interplay and experimental silhouettes.
The runways weren’t any different. Deadstock fabrics transformed into novel outfits, unapologetic individuality thrived and model diversity across ages, body types and ethnicities took center stage. Never once was the question “is this truly stylish or are these people just… thin?” Quite the opposite. Show attendees remixed, repurposed, and reinvented front-row style on their own terms, leaving inspiration aplenty for the upcoming fall season.
But in Copenhagen, this mindset is hardly unprecedented. The Scandinavian city is a playground for creativity and self-expression, where fashion is rarely just an aesthetic tool. Social awareness, political statements (even the mere resistance to the emaciated body type that GLP drugs have been pushing for in recent years) and a tight community supporting homegrown talent make Copenhagen one of global fashion’s most innovative and relevant platforms.

Graphic tees (and human rights) are really all that…

Pink is the world’s new obsession

The dress-over-pants styling is so back (and yes, everybody wants that OpéraStyle dress)

Headscarves and bandanas are so in right now

Stripes and plaid never go out of style…

Nor does camo or animal print

But nothing ever tops the sheer power of diversity, authenticity and joyful dressing
