Slip your shades on! Style kings Yuta Nakamoto, Sho Hirano, Jackson Wang and BamBam embraced old-school eyewear at the Louis Vuitton SS26 show. And, we can’t get enough of it.

This Summer, Paris Fashion Week has been a parade of warm khakis, airy blue palettes, and, of course, stylish shades. Til now, the frames have been neutral-toned and optical-inspired in silhouette. Practical? Absolutely! However, some insiders took issue with the monotony at fashion’s biggest stage. 

Fortunately, VIPs at the Louis Vuitton show spiced things up with their eyewear selection. Japanese singers Yuta Nakamoto and Sho Hirano, Chinese multihyphenate Jackson Wang, and Thai entertainer BamBam brought back coveted styles from the past. The stars sported retro-inspired vintage-style metal frames and glasses with translucent, colorful lenses that allowed just enough allure to slip through. 

By the way, we’re convinced that the colored glasses were a reference to the runway’s Snakes and Ladders-inspired setting. Inventive, isn’t it?  

Back to the Disco Era

Osaka-native Yuta Nakamoto has never turned down a bold style moment. On his return to the Parisian front rows, the Japanese star opted for large, in charge sunglasses. Yuta wore bold, cognac square frames with decorative brass hinges. The large geometric shape and soft tortoise print brought the ‘70s energy to life, while the warm colored lenses served as a direct nod to the fashion house’s brand color — saffron yellow.

Nakamoto’s usual style leans into the rocker and grunge subcultures. His 1970s-infused style choices were surprising, but still in tune with his aesthetic.

The LPF (Little Pink Frames)

With Magic Man as his creative alterego, Jackson Wang can’t help but command attention everywhere he goes. His outfits generally flow on a clever wavelength, but remain ultra clean and polished. Jackson’s eyewear pick for the Louis Vuitton SS26 front row didn’t stray far from this outlook.

The singer and businessman sported oval wire frames with translucent pink lenses. The bright color lens and subtle gold rims delivered the brightness we expect with warm-weather fashion. Plus, paired with a co-ord outfit, Wang’s skinny rounded frames fit right in with the ‘90s-inspired fashion revival.

XSS Frames

Fashion forecasters have anticipated oval frames to become one of this summer’s biggest trends. Japanese singer (and member of the boy group Number_i) Sho Hirano is leading the movement. The star accessorized his Fashion Week ‘fit with a pair of metal-framed sunglasses with dark lenses. Combined with a bright pink sweater, patterned pants and lace-up shoes, the frames tapped into the old-school charm of the 1990s small, round eyewear.

Although oval, skinny sunglasses can be divisive, they have experienced a renaissance over the last couple of seasons, influenced by the popularity of trendy designs by Miu Miu and Celine. Sho Hirano’s take on the style further cements XXS sunglasses as versatile accessories with subtle retro flair.

Going Digital 

On the other hand, Thai singer BamBam arrived at the Place Georges-Pompidou with an outfit straight from the screen—the computer screen that is. His icy blonde hair, V-neck leather jacket, and thick acetate glasses came together in a look fit for a video game character. Influenced by trends from the early 2000s, his wayfarer frames were narrow and had soft, bubbled corners. Plus, the cherry-hued lenses added to the Y2K aesthetic. 

Ultra skinny and bold chunky frames both can be intimidating for some, but BamBam pulled the look effortlessly, offering a fun and congenial take on modern sunglasses. 

From the ‘70s to the early aughts, Yuta, Sho Hirano, Jackson and BamBam’s sunglasses represented decades past in the front row. Taking summer’s power accessory to the next level, these stylish men disrupted the eyewear scene.
